On Saturday afternoon there is a road closure on Hobsonville Point Road. This is likely to still be there on Sunday morning so make sure to leave a few minutes earlier if you are coming from elsewhere. There is a bypass via Bucklay Avenue and Squadron Drive.
Welcome to the 10th Henderson-West Auckland Lions Club Hobsonville Point Runway Challenge! This event is a fun run or walk with a difference that takes in the interesting and historic surrounds of the old Hobsonville Airbase. This is a fun run, walk and obstacle adventure designed for family fun. All profits from the event are given back to the community through the Lions Club of Henderson-West Auckland Charitable Trust.
This year the course will be significantly different, as the Hobsonville Point coastal walkway has been completed ready for use. The 5 km and 10 km options will use the coastal walkway. The coastal walkway includes sections which are paved, a section which is a board walk and a couple of interesting curved bridges. There are varied views of the Waitemata Harbour and it still includes a visit to Bomb Point with its ex-military ammunitions sheds.
If your school, sports group, scout group or community group enter a team of 10 or more runners in any event, your team is entered to a PRIZE DRAW "on the Day".
Each year the lions Club of Henderson-West Auckland Charitable Trust awards community grants to many recipients with over $13,000 distributed within our community in 2016.
For the entrants you will be following the trails and paths around the course and admiring the views towards the city and across to the North Shore Bays. If getting a personal best time is your goal – then perfect! We use electronic tags to time every registered entrant. If you’re more into a great day out with friends and family come and enjoy your Sunday with us.
We have planned entertainment from 9am until 1pm. Stalls will give the event an exciting market day feel. If you would like to apply for a stall space or provide entertainment, please contact us by phone or email to discuss your requirements.
We are always looking for Sponsors to assist with this community event. Your sponsorship can be either as a financial donor or as an activity sponsor (e.g. Obstacle course). For further details, please contact us by phone or email to discuss how you can assist.
If you can't build an obstacle but would still like to be involved, we are looking for companies to have naming rights for an event or to donate products or vouchers for the goody bags. As a community event, we hope to see you, your family, your friends and your school or work mates to come along and join this Challenge.
There is an event option to suit all ages and fitness abilities. The event starts at The Hobsonville Point Primary School and follows the road down to Bomb Point along trails of the old airbase and remaining buildings of the NZ Air Force down to the water, finishing back at the Hobsonville Point Primary School where there will be entertainment and stalls for your enjoyment. This will be a fantastic day out for all the family.
You do not have to be an athlete to take part. Walk the course, have a go at the obstacles of your choice. Take part, have fun and be part of the Henderson-West Auckland Lions Club Hobsonville Point Runway Challenge.
